Thankful Thursday...I have to say today was a tough day. Long, busy, stressful, emotional - all of the above! I, again, am so thankful that I have Fridays off. It will definitely be nice to get to sleep in and recuperate.
Sunday was Father's Day. Every holiday makes you think about the way you celebrate it and the different reasons behind why the day is so important. Valentine's Day makes you think about your loved ones, Easter and Christmas have you contemplating Christ's gifts and family, and Mother's Day and Father's Day always have us expressing our gratitude and love towards our parents.
I was lucky and blessed with an amazing father. My sisters and I were spoiled with a always present dad who made our priorities his top ones. Every thing that was important to us was important to him. He constantly went the extra mile (him and mom both) to make sure we not only had what we needed in life, but also the things that made us happy. This of course was in healthy doses and he would make sure we didn't always get everything we wanted and we learned patience and respect along the way.
A great example of his commitment was his presence at all of our sporting events, choir performances, class trips, and so on. It went farther than that though...he also volunteered to be the football coach for big sissy's team when no one else would. He knew she wanted to play sports and so he put himself out there to offer her that opportunity. This was our dad.
Through all the many years of love and support, he was also teaching us the great tools of life. Teaching us the basics of life, such as critical thinking skills and making sure we knew how to spell all our spelling words, but also coping skills and relationship advice as well.
I'm pretty sure he always wanted a son, but instead was given daughters. Luckily we were all interested in "boy" things like sports and such. We also were always willing to help out around the house - installing fans and putting together furniture and door frames. We also didn't mind working out in the garage or remodeling rooms to help out others. He would have raised an amazing son, I'm sure of it, but instead raised three daughters who, if I may say so myself, can fin for themselves.
I've scattered pictures throughout this post showing those moments when he was ever-so-present in our lives. He always made us feel #1 in his life and made sure that we knew he loved us every day.
I love you daddy! Thanks for always being there and for showing us what it means to be taken care of!
Until next time...ta ta for now!
